After today's short vocabulary quiz, we spent some time talking about answering "reading comprehension" questions. Like yesterday's analogy work, this is preparation and practice for standardized tests like the ERBs and SSATs. We used a set of questions today that were about the short story, "Rules of the Game," which we finished yesterday. For almost all of the questions, we were in complete agreement on the option that represented the "best" choice. Two, however, had us divided - we could not come to a UNANIMOUS decision. 😉 This, however, led to a very rich and interesting discussion (no MONOLOGUES) about the thinking that supported the various choices. Very productive.
We also worked on revising Esperanza paragraphs and completing grammar projects. Meanwhile, each student received one-on-one feedback about the vocabulary sentence homework that was turned in yesterday. (Note the change in the HW for tonight -- it now includes revising those sentences.)
Grammar quiz on Tuesday on "The Sentence." A good review/prep strategy would be to revisit the grammar snacks for that topic from last year. (They can be found linked from the sixth grade blog.)
