VOC study continued with a more focused look at two of the words: commander and management. Using a chart (to which we'll be adding a bit each day), we used each of the two words in context, documented the words' part of speech, wrote a brief definition after some discussion of how the words were used, and then came up with a mnemonic (or a memory aid) to help. We will continue this process for each of the remaining words in Lesson 11 over the next week.
LIT: We updated our plot diagram for A Single Shard, considering which events in the story through chapter 8 are significant in relation to Tree-ear's main conflicts. We also discussed how the themes of guilt and shame have occurred so far in the novel.
Homework: Review chapters 5 - 8 in preparation for the SS quiz tomorrow. Remember, this is where the ACTIVE READING you have done with your teams in the classroom becomes the most useful. Think back to the discussions you've had with your group and the key moments you and your group have noticed. Look again at the Active Reading codes you have marked. HINT: if you are not seeing many annotations or marks in your book, then you are likely reading TOO QUICKLY, and not taking time to notice the details.
