LIT: Today we practiced making active reading notes IN our graphic novel. Since it's a new text format, naturally our active reading note style will be slightly different. To facilitate this change, we created a "How to Read My Graphic Novel" list in the inside front cover of our texts.
After we'd reviewed all the steps we went through yesterday as a whole class for reading the graphic novel, small teams and individuals (their choice) read the next section, "Running Away," a two-page spread that is the continuation of scene 1.
Next up - experiencing the words of Shakespeare in yet another way. This time, we used the iPad app, Shakespeare in Bits - which is a dramatized production that provides text as well as a visuals. Within the text, highlighted words can be translated to a more modern version (so the original "dowager" becomes "widow"). Both classes really enjoyed hearing and reading the complete version of scene one - next week, we tackle scene 2!
Homework: Active read the summary page for act 1, scene 2. Use the work we did together in class on Wednesday with scene 1 as a model for what to do with this one independently.
